What is the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?

Partial hospitalization is a comprehensive, highly structured, goal-oriented psychiatric treatment approach designed to decrease disturbing symptoms of depression and to increase individuals' self-understanding and ability to cope with life stressors.  Treatment includes group psychotherapy, group education, activity therapy, and individual therapy.

Who is appropriate for treatment?

Individuals 18 years of age and older with a wide variety of emotional problems can be treated.  Individuals must be coherent and able to tolerate 6 hours of treatment per day. Common problems include depression, anxiety, grief issues, relationship difficulties, and work- related stressors.

Who provides treatment?

Treatment is provided by an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals including Psychiatrists, a Registered Nurse certified in Mental Health, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Social Service Coordinator, and an Activity Therapist.

When is treatment available?

Treatment is provided Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm.  Lunch is provided at no cost to the participant.  Each individual's schedule is mutually determined by client and staff in accordance with the client's needs and the requirements of their payer sources.

How are services coordinated?

PHP staff members meet as a treatment team to develop individualized treatment plans for each client.  Staff members also collaborate with outside treatment providers, physicians and community agencies to assure continuity of care and ongoing support during and following treatment.

Is the family involved?

Marital, family therapy and education are available to PHP clients.

Is transportation available?

Clients are encouraged to arrange for or provide their own transportation.  When transportation cannot be provided by other resources, Bradford House can assist with arranging for or, in some cases, providing transportation.

How is payment accepted for treatment?

Bradford House accepts clients with Medicare, Medicaid, most commercial insurances, and private pay.

Who can refer to the Partial Hospital Program?

Referrals are accepted from individuals and their families, physicians and their staff, nurses, social workers, clergy, and therapists.
